I decided to utilize the backroom at my house that had been repurposed into a small painting studio/dog bedroom. I still wanted to go with the idea of an altar as I had in my previous sites, but with a different mindset. Over the past summer I had to disconnect myself from working on any actual art just to recharge after a stressful and, overall, disappointing semester. I had allowed the weight of stress and expectations drag me down so hard that it made doing the things I enjoyed the most feel like a chore. The study wraps up in the last image that reminds me it's important to take a break and work on self indulgences and to remember that I can always take a step outside.

When I was thinking of what I could do for my next site study, I remembered about my growing collection of crystals and couldn't let any opportunity to incorporate my collection into my work. I initially approached this study in the same mindset as with the books by making stair steps and stacks out of my objects before thinking about how crystals are often used with pagan altars. I had an idea of making an altar to my phone charger to pray that my cords never become frayed. I soon looked up information about chakra and references of altars that utilize crystals and began to play around with a few different formations and patterns. I finally came to a full circle as I incorporated copper wire into my pattern as quartz and copper are both used in electronics which relates back to the outlet for my phone charger as I say, "Chakra me up and charge my phone." This is mostly an added bonus. I thoroughly enjoy piecing the quartzes together to create a new crystal formation.
Lately I have been thinking about ancient cultures and how I would go about incorporating some of what I've learned into my personal work. My first thought was to make a Tower of Babel of sorts with various books from the shelf in my bedroom. My first idea of a straight up tower felt lacking despite the stability. I decided to go about things different to run into stability issues. Thinking back to my art history class where we are learning about the culture and art of Mesoamerica, I thought why not ziggurats. I started to touch back on playing with forced perspective with my tower and the shelf behind it again like I had in my first incarnation.
